Creating and Managing Multicultural Teams for Optimum Performance – EA Summit Showcase
Teams are an essential part of organizations today and are increasingly multicultural and more diverse in such dimensions as gender, age, race/ethnicity, and nationality. A great deal of team leadership focuses exclusively on external leaders serving in a formal capacity in the organization, while largely ignoring the processes and impact of internal team leadership. The ability to communicate with team members with different outlooks, perceptions, and behaviors is essential to the team’s success. This session will focus on the internal team leadership roles which are often informal and emergent. By the end of the session, participants will leave with practical tools and tips for managing teams with new awareness, skills, and confidence where all team members can be heard and represented.
- Identify multicultural dimensions that impact communication and collaboration; discover how they can be used to strengthen team performance.
- Explore Britton’s (2006) Four Internal Team Leadership Roles – Navigator, Engineer, Social Integrator, and Liaison.
- Learn how you can leverage roles to provide leadership and enhance team results.
- Engage in and apply interactive exercises designed to stimulate open discussion and development of requisite skills.
