EW1 – Telling Your Data’s Story: Designing Information to Make Your Message Pop
All data and information has a story within it. Every communication channel has an intended purpose. When you prepare presentations, reports, white papers, or even marketing collateral, your goal is to communicate with clarity, precision, and persuasion. And…the nuances matter: how you visualize your data; which chart or graph you use; how you structure and organize your content; even where and how you insert colors and lines. If you’re strategic about it—if you tell the story well—your audience will listen. Learn the fundamentals of displaying data and information in ways that bring clarity, enhance engagement, and make your key messages more memorable. Between a mix of discussion, exercises, and the review of current, relevant examples, you’ll leave this workshop knowing how to:
- Choose the right chart or graph for your specific type of data or information;
- Apply information design techniques to enhance and draw attention to your most important messages; and
- Integrate data visualizations effectively into reports, slide decks, and other communication channels to ensure the story you need told is what will be heard and remembered.
